just a point of clarification about this article - the Chancellor's meeting with the students next monday has been scheduled for a long time. It is part of the Dialogue with the Chancellor series, which is a quarterly open discussion with the Chancellor and other UCD administrators. Just wanted to make clear that while the University may be framing this as an additional, voluntary concession, that is not in fact what it is.

I would also like to point out that while this was, I think, a positive event, the administration would negotiate with us only with police present. At the moment that administrators claimed they were trying to engage in open dialogue, police were quietly brought into the building to occupy the floors above or below us, ready to pounce, no doubt, as soon as we stopped complying with their stall tactics. That's not to say that some concessions weren't won, but that I don't think it signal that the University is willing to negotiate with anything real. I think it's a sign that they're desperate. Which has very different implications than are suggested here.
