The Arizona Students’ Association and the Associated Students of the University of Arizona have put up a powerful slideshow on the University of Arizona’s proposed tuition increase:
The idea behind the slideshow is simple: Let students speak directly to the increase would change their lives. Real students, real impact.
The statements speak to a wide variety of effects — “a third job,” “my little brother’s ability to come here,” “a plane ticket to visit my dad.” Each tells a personal story, and each gives that story a human face.
It’s a great, powerful statement. Go look.
And if you’re running an anti-tuition campaign of your own, maybe you should bring a camera and a whiteboard (or a pad and sharpie) to your next rally.

The video that the UofA put together is so powerful…I’m so glad that is seems to be finding it’s way around both Arizona and the nation.
As a student at Arizona State University, where a $1200 “tuition surcharge” has been proposed, I know that these extreme increases–if passed–would drastically affect my ability to thrive at ASU.
While the people in power often get caught up in the policy debate of tuition, it is so important to remember every student and family that is negatively affected when draconian barriers to obtaining an education are put in place at our state schools.
As a student and an Arizona Voter, I want to say thanks for spreading the word about this pressing issue.
